We believe that students who are interested in spelling, learning new vocabulary words, and honing their public speaking skills can see tremendous benefits from participating in the Scripps Spelling Bee. These benefits include a sense of accomplishment, academic learning, and self-confidence. We welcome all students who are interested and eligible to enroll.
All 1st through 5th Grade students that attend Cascade Ridge Elementary School (including those that reside outside of Trossachs) or live in the Trossachs neighborhood and are homeschooled are welcome to register. Unfortunately, our region does not permit kindergarten students to participate in the Bee.
A written qualifying exam will be administered one week before the event at
Fire Station 83 - Klahanie:

Students will show up at their designated time slot, chosen when you register, and complete a written grade level appropriate exam.

The Bee is a very important event for the participating students, and one that should be met with support and grace by their family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to come support their students at the Bee events. However, the audience must be able to remain quiet to permit concentration. No assistance may be rendered to students, such as spelling words with mouth or hand gestures. In addition, the decision of the judges are final and may not be questioned, challenged, or objected to by any participants or attendees. Volunteers will be standing at the front of the audience to ensure none of these behaviors take place. We look forward to welcoming you to this exciting event where all students will be encouraged to do their best without undue pressure or interference from third parties. The audience may clap for participants when they exit the Bee, or win the Bee, but otherwise audience communication with the Bee participants is prohibited during the event. In addition, there will be no family or friends permitted in the written testing area during the Written Qualifying Exam. A full list of rules will be uploaded and available on this site soon.
This event is not affiliated with Cascade Ridge Elementary School/PTSA, Issaquah School District (ISD), or the Trossachs HOA. However, it is a qualifying event for the Scripps Spelling Bee Regional Program, which will be held March 17, 2024 (Qualifying Virtual Bee) and March 31, 2024 (Regional Spelling Bee) at Town Hall Seattle.
